Prof. Vladimir Ciric is a computer scientist and dean of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, University of Nis, Serbia. After obtaining his Ph.D. degree in 2011, in 2012 he was appointed Assistant Professor by the University of Nis, Associate Professor in 2017, and Full Professor in 2022. He teaches computer network security, cloud computing, and programming-related courses at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering. Since 2006, he has been an instructor at the Cisco Networking Academy at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering. In 2013, he proposed, designed, and implemented the Curriculum for Computer System Security study module at Master Studies at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, which was accredited for the first time in 2013 and reaccredited by the National Entity for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education in 2019. Since 2021, he has been preparing a team of students for national and international cybersecurity competitions. They achieved notable results in both national and international competitions. In 2023, he established the Laboratory for Advanced Cybersecurity Systems at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and serves as the head of the laboratory. From 2014 until 2018, he was a member of the management committee of the Cost Action IC1305 “Network for Sustainable Ultrascale Computing (NESUS)”. He was appointed as one of the management committee members of Cost Action CA22104, “Behavioral Next Generation in Wireless Networks for Cyber Security (BEiNG-WISE)”, for the period 2023–2027, which gathers cybersecurity professionals from 31 European and partner countries. He served as CEO of the Technology Transfer Center at the University of Nis from 2013 to 2016. From 2013 until 2018, he was a member of the Faculty Council, and from 2019 until 2024, he served as vice president of the Faculty Council. The research interests of Prof. Ciric include computer networks and security, computer architectures, cloud computing, fault-tolerant design, and parallel and distributed computing. The focus of his latest research is on artificial intelligence applications in cybersecurity. His current research activities include the analysis and visualization of cybersecurity-related data. He has published more than 20 journal papers and over 40 conference papers, one book, two textbooks, several technical solutions, and one patent. Current Research Activities
The current research activities of Prof. Ciric include cybersecurity-related data collection, analysis, and visualization. His current focus is on publicly available cybersecurity datasets and their analysis using both statistical and machine learning approaches, as well as their implementation in real-life environments. In addition to his work with publicly available datasets, he develops architectures for security-related data collection within computer network environments. Currently, he performs experiments aimed at detecting modern cybersecurity attacks produced in simulated environments using deep learning networks.
